- Whole class project - teacher takes the video of the students in a learning situation, edits with the students and create a video.
- Show the students how to record and have them go off and record items around the school (if studying geometry have them film themselves saying "This is a square") Then edit all of the students work.
Looking forward to hearing your ideas!

Digital Video - How to for Kindergarten
So here I am racking my brain on what I could possibly do in kindergarten using digital video and I thought we could all share some ideas - kind of like a "blogwiki" for ideas. Please feel free to add some bullets that you think would be useful in the K classroom. Here are my ideas.

I have to say, Mat, I give you so much credit for venturing into all the technology you do with the little guys. I am sure it's hard to find the right fit when using these tools with them. What about having them read an entire book-their sight word books, of course, where one student reads a separate word or page? I have this crazy vision of how cool that would look to have an entire video of a book being read fluently, but by so many different voices (and faces). It would require a lot of editing on your part, but I'm sure the kids would love it. After initially watching it, they could even follow along finger pointing to the words as they are read on the video. Or, what if each student was responsible for reading a different book and you set up a center where these videos are played on a laptop? Not sure if this would be a copyright issue or not since it involves reading copyrighted books.
ReplyDeleteI don't know your curriculum that well...in fact, almost not at all...but here are my two cents:
ReplyDeletePerhaps the students could help you create a class video-book. For example, the alphabet, and each kid is filmed saying a letter and word that it starts with. Perhaps have the students individually help you edit down their portion of the video. Just a thought.
I love the "this is a square idea." Where did you ever come up with that? I just hope your kids act as excited as Mulhern did. Other than that, I got nothing, sorry buddy.
